A great voice issues from within the stupa, praising the Buddha: "Excellent, excellent! Shakyamuni, World-Honoured One, you have been able to expound this Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Dharma with the great wisdom of equality. Just so, just so — all that Shakyamuni World-Honoured One has said is true."
The voice belongs to Prabhūtaratna Buddha (多宝如来, Many Treasures Buddha), who lived and attained enlightenment in an inconceivably ancient past age. Before his final nirvana, he made a vow: wherever in the future the Lotus Sutra is taught, his stupa will appear to bear witness and give testimony. The phrase "just so, just so" (如是如是) is a solemn certification — a Buddha from the deepest past confirming the truth of the teaching being given in the present.
