1st Yao (初爻)
拔茅茹,以其山,征吉。
English: Pulling out the grass, drawing up its roots together with others of its kind. Going forward brings good fortune. In favorable times, advance together with like-minded people.

包荒,用冯河,不遭遗,朋亡,得尚于中行。
English: Embracing the wilderness, crossing the river on foot, not abandoning the distant, parting from partisanship — thus one earns honor on the middle path. Broad-minded leadership that includes all finds the right way.

3rd Yao (三爻)
无平不陋,无往不复,艾贞无咎;勿恤其孚,于食有福。
English: There is no plain that does not slope, no going that does not return. Persevere through difficulty without blame. Do not grieve over your sincerity; there is blessing in the food you eat. Even in prosperity, prepare for cycles of change.

4th Yao (四爻)
翁翁,不富以其邻,不戒以孚。
English: Fluttering down, not wealthy yet sharing with neighbors, without warning but from sincere trust. The generous spirit is not diminished by giving.

帝乙归妹,以祉元吉。
English: The Emperor Yi gives his daughter in marriage. This brings blessings and great good fortune. Proper relationships and correct unions bring lasting happiness.

城复于隍,勿用师,自邑告命,贞吝。
English: The wall falls back into the moat. Do not use the army. Issue orders within your own city only. Persistence brings regret. When prosperity ends, forceful action cannot restore it.
