Meaning

Represents joyful readiness and enthusiastic preparation. Thunder emerges from the earth with great energy. This is a time for inspiring others, establishing leaders, and setting things in motion. But enthusiasm must be channeled wisely to avoid complacency.

Interpretation

Six Yao (Lines) with Classical Quotes

1st Yao (初爻)

鸣豫,凶。

English: Proclaiming enthusiasm — misfortune. Bragging about one's excitement and anticipation before having done anything of substance brings trouble.

2nd Yao (二爻)

介于石,不终日,贞吉。

English: Firm as a rock, not waiting until the day is done — persistence brings good fortune. Decisiveness that does not wait for perfect conditions is rewarded.

English: Enthusiasm from looking upward in dependence brings regret. Hesitating also brings regret. Neither flattering dependence nor endless delay serves well.

English: The source of enthusiasm — great gain. No doubts; friends gather like hair in a clasp. True enthusiasm that draws from inner conviction brings allies and great results.

English: Persistence in illness, but not dying. Chronic difficulty that is endured without giving up — the situation is unpleasant but not fatal.

冥豫,成有渝,无咎。

English: Deluded enthusiasm — but there is a change. No blame. Even one who has gone too far in indulgent enthusiasm can correct course and find no lasting harm.
