Trigrams

☳☴ – Thunder above, Wind below

Meaning

Represents endurance, constancy, and the power of lasting commitment. Thunder and wind reinforce each other, neither overwhelming the other. True endurance is not rigidity but a living, dynamic steadiness — the ability to persist while remaining responsive to change.

Interpretation

Six Yao (Lines) with Classical Quotes

1st Yao (初爻)

浚恒,贞凶,无攸利。

English: Plunging into endurance too deeply at the start — persistent misfortune, nothing is gained. Demanding too much too fast from a relationship or commitment strains it beyond recovery.

Luck Level: Misfortune

2nd Yao (二爻)

悔亡。

English: Regret disappears. When one maintains duration through the middle way, difficulties dissolve naturally.

Luck Level: Neutral

3rd Yao (三爻)

不恒其德,或承之羞,贞吝。

English: Not enduring in virtue — sometimes receiving shame. Persistence in such inconsistency brings regret. A wavering character invites disgrace.

Luck Level: Caution

4th Yao (四爻)

田无禽。

English: No game in the field. Going through the motions of the right activity in the wrong place — nothing is caught.

Luck Level: Caution

5th Yao (五爻)

恒其德,贞;妇人吉,夫子凶。

English: Enduring in one's virtue and persisting — for a woman this is good fortune, for a man it leads to misfortune. A woman enduring in devotion is admirable; a man needs to show initiative.

Luck Level: Misfortune

6th Yao (上爻)

振恒,凶。

English: Shaking endurance — misfortune. Being unable to stay still, constantly agitated, undermines the very constancy that is needed.

Luck Level: Misfortune
