Meaning

Represents increase, growth, and abundance flowing from above to below. The upper decreases to benefit the lower — a natural, generous outpouring. This is a propitious time for great undertakings; take action while the favorable conditions last.

Interpretation

Six Yao (Lines) with Classical Quotes

1st Yao (初爻)

利用为大作,元吉,无咎。

English: Beneficial to undertake great works — primary good fortune, no blame. A time of genuine increase that supports large and ambitious undertakings.

Luck Level: Excellent

2nd Yao (二爻)

或益之,十朋之龟弗克违,永贞吉,王用享于帝,吉。

English: Someone increases it; ten pairs of tortoise shells cannot oppose it. Lasting perseverance brings good fortune. The king makes offering to God — good fortune. Benefiting all below is in harmony with heaven's own intention.

3rd Yao (三爻)

益之用凶事,无咎,有孚中行,告公用圭。

English: Increased through calamitous events — no blame. Sincerity through the middle way, reporting to the duke with a jade tablet. Even from crisis comes growth when handled with integrity.

Luck Level: Neutral

4th Yao (四爻)

中行,告公从,利用为依迁国。

English: Walking the middle way, reporting to the duke — following. Beneficial to use this for a capital transfer. The moment is right for major reorganization and expansion.

5th Yao (五爻)

有孚惠心,勿问元吉;有孚惠我德。

English: Sincerely benevolent in heart — great good fortune without question. Sincerely bringing benefit to my virtue. The highest form of increase — enriching inner virtue and sharing it generously.

6th Yao (上爻)

莫益之,或击之,立心勿恒,凶。

English: No one benefits it; someone may strike it. One's heart cannot maintain its course — misfortune. A heart that is not genuinely committed to benefiting others, and whose constancy is uncertain, invites attack and disaster.
