25. 无妄 – Wú Wàng (Innocence)

Meaning

Represents innocence, spontaneity, and acting without ulterior motive. Heaven's creative power moves through thunder's spontaneous action. When one acts in complete harmony with nature and truth, without contrivance, all goes well. Calculation corrupts.

Interpretation

Six Yao (Lines) with Classical Quotes

1st Yao (初爻)

无妄往,吉。

English: Going forward in innocence — good fortune. Acting with pure, spontaneous sincerity brings favorable results.

Luck Level: Good

2nd Yao (二爻)

不耕获,不赁畛,则利有攸往。

English: Not plowing for the harvest, not tilling for the third-year crop — then it is beneficial to have somewhere to go. Acting without calculation, yet reaping natural benefits.

3rd Yao (三爻)

无妄之灾,或系之牛,行人之得,邑人之灾。

English: Unexpected disaster — someone ties up a cow; a passerby gains it but the villager suffers the loss. Innocent misfortune that befalls others through no fault of your own.

4th Yao (四爻)

可贞,无咎。

English: Persevering in what is correct — no blame. Remaining true to principles even when unexpected things happen brings no fault.

5th Yao (五爻)

无妄之疾,勿药有喜。

English: An unexpected illness — do not take medicine, and there will be joy. Sometimes things heal naturally; intervention can do more harm than good.

6th Yao (上爻)

无妄行,有眨,无攸利。

English: Going forward in innocence when it is not the right time brings misfortune and nothing is gained. Even purity of heart cannot overcome wrong timing.
