Meaning

Represents unity, alliance, and the bonds that hold people together. Like water on the earth, people naturally seek to join together around a worthy center. Cooperation and loyalty bring mutual benefit and security.

Interpretation

Six Yao (Lines) with Classical Quotes

1st Yao (初爻)

有孚比之,无咎;有孚盈缶,终来有它,吉。

English: Holding together with sincerity, no blame. Sincerity fills the simple vessel; in the end another good thing comes. True loyalty, even from humble origins, draws good fortune.

2nd Yao (二爻)

比之自内,贞吉。

English: Holding together from within. Persistence brings good fortune. Union that grows from inner conviction and genuine feeling is stable and lasting.

3rd Yao (三爻)

比之匡人。

English: Holding together with the wrong people. Associating with those who lack virtue or integrity leads to misfortune. Choose companions carefully.

4th Yao (四爻)

外比之,贞吉。

English: Holding together with those outside. Perseverance brings good fortune. Forming alliances beyond one's immediate circle is beneficial when done with integrity.

显比,王用三驱,失前禽,邑人不訡,吉。

English: Manifest unity. The king hunts from three sides, letting some game escape. The townspeople need not beware. Good fortune. A generous and open-hearted leader wins loyal followers.

比之无首,凶。

English: Holding together without a leader. Misfortune. A group without central direction and vision cannot hold together and will fall apart.
